Is pattycake an all-vegan bakery?

What does it mean to be vegan?
One who is vegan typically does not consume or purchase any products made from materials derived from animals.

I have a food allergy/sensitivity. What does pattycake make for me?
All of our products are 100% dairy and egg free. Pattycake is also happy to try to accommodate other food sensitivities - please call our store for more details 614-784-2253.

peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat & gluten:
Upon request we can carefully prepare special-order allergen-free items. However, we are not a dedicated allergen-free bakery. As our bakery uses nuts, soy, and wheat, there is a possibility of cross contamination for all other items, even those that do not contain any given allergen. Please use your discretion when ordering if you or someone you love has a food-sensitivity.

Do you make sugar-free items?
Yes! Our amazing raw cheesecake and our cashew date cardamom truffles contain no added sugar. Additionally, several of our items, including most of our cakes can be made with agave nectar, a sweetener with a very low glycemic index appropriate for many diabetics. If you would like more information on these items please contact us.

What percentage of your ingredients are organic and whole grain?
Depending on the item, 65-90% organic, and 0-100% whole grain. Our online store features each item's ingredient list for detailed product information.

What is pattycake doing to be "green"?
A founding principle of Pattycake's is to be sustainable. To this end, we:
•compost all of our food waste
•recycle everything
•re-use cardboard boxes to package orders
•buy from and support local businesses/non-profits/folks as much as possible
•deliver our central-city orders by bicycle
•use bakery bags that are recycled and biodegradeable
•package most of our baked goods in biodegradeable cellophane
•use 100% post consumer recycled paper lables printed locally with soy-based inks
•use primarily organic ingredients
•use 100% biodegradeable and all natural cleaning products
•are vegan
•are a "Green Spot" member
•are a member of Green America

I see that you use maple syrup in your granola. Is it also vegan?
Yes! Pattycake has searched out, and found, a supplier that uses a vegetable defoamer in their maple syrup! Didn't realize that maple syrup is not always vegan? Read more here about this and other foods that one typically would not think of as containing animal products.

Why does my cookie(muffin/cupcake) look different today?
Since we use our hands and not machines to scoop, press, and/or roll-out all of our products, you may see cookies with a slightly odd shape or cupcakes with a different color icing that the last time you got them. This uniqueness is a result of production being done by humans and not by machines. We believe that variety is the spice of life, and we'll let you in on a little secret... we think making our goodies by hand makes them taste better, too.

Do you ship cakes?
We are not able to ship cakes at this time. We can ship cupcakes, however...

Do you make wedding cakes?
We do! Please call or email for more information.

Do you ever use fondant?
At this time we do not use fondant as we have not yet developed an all-natural and vegan recipe that satisfies us.

Can I get detailed nutritional information from you?
Unfortunately, we do not have detailed nutritional information for our products at this time. However, as we do not use animal products, our baked goods contain no cholesterol. Our products also tend to be higher in protein than their non-vegan counterparts as a result of our use of whole grains, flax seeds and tofu.

What do you use to replace eggs?
It varies from recipe to recipe. However, we can guarantee you that we do not use the prepackaged egg-replacers that are found in stores and used by some other vegan bakeries. We find that using wholefood ingredients are not only more wholesome, but create much more delicious results. Click here for a great list of egg replacers!

How many days notice do you need for a special order?
We usually ask 48 hours notice (before ship date if not in Columbus) for special order cakes or allergen-free items. If you need your goodies sooner please contact us and we will try our best to accommodate you.

What are your shipping rates?
Shipping charges are based on package size, weight, and delivery location. All orders are shipped by USPS Priority Mail with a transit time of 2-3 days.

When will my order arrive?
All orders are shipped Monday through Thursday. Any order placed on Friday, Saturday or Sunday will be shipped the following Monday to avoid extra transit time. Please note that holidays may affect our shipment dates as well.

Can I redeem a gift certificate online?
Not at this time, though we hope to have this feature soon.

Is my credit card secure?
Yes, pattycake's shopping cart is secured by Big Cartel.

What if I am not happy with my goodies?
Pattycake aims to please. If you are not satisfied, please do not hesitate to let us know!
